I guess from many of my posts you would think that I’m obsessed with Roseanne. And yes, that may be a little bit true. Roseanne is the one show that after several decades of being on television I can still sit down and watch no matter what time of day or season.
There’s one thing however that’s always bugged me about the show – the house’s floor plan. Now I’m not an architect, engineer, draftsman or person of any real education concerning blue prints, etc but I’ve always been fascinated by floor plans. When I was a kid my dad would draw house plans for people and I’d sit on the floor next to him and draw floor plans for the loft my Ken Doll and his boyfriend from North Korea that he met on the internet would move into when gay marriage was legalized…
Yeah as a kid I was totally gay. GAY GAY GAY. I was so gay that at about 2 years old at my cousin’s wedding I threw a fit because I wanted a wedding dress like she had so my dad had to put me in one of his big t-shirts so I’d shut up. Someday if I can find pictures of it I’ll post them, I know I’ve seen them somewhere.
Anyway, when I was growing up I used to watch Roseanne all the time, it made me feel normal to see how abnormally they functioned I guess. During my parents fights, which they had very frequently I would pretend that we were the Conners because they seemed a lot happier.
WOW tragic, huh! Dear god that brick needs to go right back in the wall, f’real.
Still after like 20 years of watching the show the floor plan bugged me because I couldn’t figure it out. Everything made sense to me except the master bedroom/master bath configuration that never seemed to fit right with me. I’ve looked online several times for some kind of clue but I could never find a PDF or even a jpeg of the floor plan so it continued to haunt me.
Until three days ago. I spotted it while watching the show, the missing link in the house. The part I never understood was the doors actually, the doors they walk through to reach the bedroom or bathroom from the kitchen didn’t match the ones going from either room into the kitchen, they seemed switched. Three days ago however I noticed A HALLWAY. Yes that’s right.
WOOT.
I doubt many of you are as excited about this as I am but it ended a question that’s lingered in my head for a long time. I’m a simple guy that takes simple pleasures and this is one that has seemed to make my life a little more complete for some reason.
I have this blogging censor that keeps me from writing stuff that I don’t think anyone will give a shit about like Dan and Roseanne Conner’s Floor Plan but this time I said to myself “no, just go ahead and hit that ‘publish’ button. SOMEONE out there has to be wondering about the same thing so even if nobody else gets it, someone will.”
So here it is, the Conner Family’s Floor Plan.
Dude!! FINALLY! Have you noticed though that in the episode where Roseanne is getting a late nite snack and catches David coming up from being in the basement with Darlene and says they were playing Monopoly with DJ? Well, he comes from the laundry room porch into the kitchen. Where the hell is the basement door??? In the first couple seasons at begining credits when they pan around the table, they show a door that looks like it’s over by the stove. I think that is also where Roseanne comes up from the basement in the last episode when she’s talking about her book that she wrote…
Is it just my lack of sleep or what? Did you notice that too? You were NOT alone in the great bathroom/master bedroom door debate…
Yeah the door to the basement has been pretty elusive. The location I used was based off of the last episode like you said when she comes out of the basement and sits on the couch. I really think that similar to many other homes like it, the basement would have an outside entrance as well which would explain the usual porch entry.
You know – everyone has seen the infamous tornado episode – why did they hide in the living room when it hit instead of going to THE BASEMENT?
Never thought about that until just now…
Thank God, i’ve always wondered this! I knew there was a hall, but could never figure out the master. I thought it was more parallel to the kitchen, not butted up against the living room. And I agree, the upstairs totally doesn’t fit with picture of the outside of the house. Those are big bedrooms in comparison to the outside!
Omg. I thought I was the only person on this earth that cared about the floor plan of that show. I knew about the hallway already but I'm stumped about the upstairs and the garage because in the episode Her Boyfriends Back, Becky walks in the scene from inside the garage.
I have always wondered about the floorplan. What do you think about the 2nd floor? Do both bedrooms share a bath, or does each bedroom have it's own bath?? This has ALWAYS bothered me!!!
One more thought… with the way the bed is placed in Dan and Roseanne's bedroom it would not be possible to look in the neighbors window as they do in the episode with the old naked air hockey playing neighbors… The window that they use really looks out onto the front yard.
Avery, I think they both have their own bathroom. DJ's room looks the exact same as the Girls' room, just flipped. When will they be doing a Roseanne reunion show/movie? LOL I watch it on TVLand every night.
LoL I have a question … where is the house they show the outside of located? and I have noticed when they show the outside if you look in the window on the front porch you can see a lamp but when they show the inside the lamp isnt there haha I watch tooo much Roseanne!
The floor plan with Roseanne has never made since to me either… in earlier episodes it looks like they could get to the garage directly from the house… then they couldn’t… check out the episode “saturday” where dwight has a thing for Jackie. Also the upstairs has always bothered me… the way their laid out they don’t mix together… THEN supposidly there’s another bathroom in the upstairs hallway… cus becky complains about DJ not cleaning the hallway bathroom but they also have the bathroom that connects the rooms… episodes where dan dreams about the goofy redhead is the one where becky complains. It would be nice to kinda see how the whole lot is laid out, cus it’s confused the crud outta me!! 🙂
My name is Ricky and iam a fan of the rossane show. Email me or I m me on yahoo kidmuzic@yahoo.com
I’m so glad I foundthis post! I have also been wondering about the upstairs floor plan and where the actual house is located that they show?
so cool! i love this show too! 🙂
It’s been a while since people asked, but the address is 619 S Runnymeade, Evansville, IN. It’s fantastic to look it up on Google Maps streetview! It feels like home.
Dude, thank you for taking this on! I have been wanting a Conner house in The Sims for a very very long time, and the one thing that always tripped me up was the second floor plan. I Google “Roseanne floor plan” like once every 6 months to see if someone has figured it out yet, and until today, the searches were fruitless. I’m so glad to know that there are others who are so obsessed with it!
Glad you like it! Yeah I’ve tried to work on a floor plan to the second floor for – since – well, when did I first write that entry? lol. The second floor makes no sense and actually changes from season to season so there’s no definitive way of laying it out on paper. It’s made clear that there are only two bathrooms, yet one episode DJ’s room shares a bathroom with the girls’ room through the same door that is his closet AND entry to his bedroom in several different episodes. It’s all little jokes that Roseanne inserted for people that pay attention. Or they just didn’t care and said “It’s an effing TV show, who’s going to care that much?”
They had not yet met THE DUNDERBRAIN.
Thank you for this. I’m planning a comic strip to be set part-time in a house that I was going to base on Roseanne’s house, and you’ve just diminished my planning and tinkering time on that to almost nil. ^__^
In response to Justin’s tornado episode comment (though I know he posted it a long time ago)…During the tornado, Roseanne made a comment about how they couldn’t go down to the basement because Dan was using it as storage for construction materials. I was just talking to a friend of mine about this earlier in the week, because I’m not sure they ever alluded to the fact that there was a basement in the house until they actually had scenes in the basement in a later episode, but the fact that she mentions that in the tornado episode keeps with the consistency of the show later.
And PS–I love this show as much as you do, and I’ve been curious about the floorplan of their house for years. Thanks for all your hard work and research–your site has been an amazing find!!
Thanks for the hard work! I too love this show. Have you ever noticed that in the first few episodes the entry door to the garage is on the left, and in the rest of the episodes the entry door to the garage is on the right. In the beginning people would enter the garage from the left, with the large car entry in the background with windows. For the rest of the show, people would enter from the right with the same garage windows in the background.
Yes, but now how about the top floor? I myself tried to draw up a floorplan for this, and the top floor was more of a conundrum based off the show than anything else, especially considering what the outside looks like… there’s a big window in the front that just doesn’t seem to make sense with the way the stairs are and the way Darlene and Becky’s room seems to come off the stairs… Yeah, I’m obsessed with the show too, I don’t even have to go back and look at episodes to remember where there room should be 😉
I wrote another blog about the second floor, check it out!

You know – everyone has seen the infamous tornado episode – why did they hide in the living room when it hit instead of going to THE BASEMENT?
Never thought about that until just now…”
In the tornado episode Becky states that at school they had a tornado drill and that they were told that they needed to be in the corner of the basement. Roseanne said it was filled with all of Dan’s junk and there was no room. Dan then said something to the effect of “all that lumber and sheet rock had to go some place.” Then they decide they will have to ride the storm out on the first floor.
To answer the question regarding why the Conner’s didn’t hide in the basement during the tornado – In that episode, Roseanne mentioned that they couldn’t go in there for cover, because Dan had all of his tools and drywall stuff for work stored there.
Now, here’s a question: I am currently watching the episode where David and Darlene get married. Who are the pictures of on their mantel? One of them looks like John Goodman with a woman’s wig on ahah – it’s in black and white.
The kitchen is wrong in your layout.

The reason they didn’t go into the basement for the tornado episode in season one is because Dan said he had to put all the dry wall in the basement and there was no room.
Also we have seen and known the basement door was behind the table next to the oven for a long time. The first time it was shown when dj had a dog that he traded cards to get and was hiding it in the basement when the came running out of the door dj says no you need to stay in the basement.
Did you see that?
