I’m still pretty throwed off by the whole time change thing – doesn’t that sound weird when you say it? “Time Change”. Like some weird cosmic event or something. Like it took a Delorean or a disused phone booth to accomplish. Anyway, I’ve been up since 5:30 when I stumbled out of bed and tried to figure out the shower. Things are fun before the sun comes up, it reminds me of working backstage. Like in a theater before the house lights come on and the Diva is still running around in her stockings and wig cap.
I made it to my friend’s at exactly 6:30 and we were both still in that state of half-sleep so we were a bit slow communicating, but since I would be watching her daughter for the rest of the morning there were a few things we had to establish. I forget that there are things you have to remember about toddlers when taking care of them, like:
They crap their pants a lot and YOU have to clean it up.
They can’t get their own food yet, and they don’t know how to cook.
So semi-important things. I don’t even think about the normal baby stuff with this kid, she’s super smart so I forget she’s a baby sometimes. I still can’t believe I woke up and got all “up and Adam” this morning… btw I just recently figured out that the previously mentioned phrase is actually “up and at ’em” not “up and Adam”. I couldn’t figure out who the hell Adam was and why I was up and him. Was it like Adam as in Adam and Eve – that Adam? Was I supposed to get up and make a naked chick out of my rib? Was I Adam because it was morning and I needed to eat some Fruit?
Anyway WHAT were we voting for yesterday? I totally didn’t even know there was an election going on yesterday until I went to the gym and saw all kinds of “vote here” signs outside. I go to the nifty little community center behind my house so I guess they do things like that there. I didn’t know what the issues at hand were so I didn’t want to go in as an uninformed voter so I *gasp* didn’t VOTE.
This concerned me because I like to be an active voter, I didn’t vote in 2000 and look what happened. I looked up the issues online and couldn’t figure out what any of the issues were actually about. Read This:
HJR 14 would amend the constitution to provide that the taking of private property for public use (“eminent domain”) is authorized only if it is for the ownership, use, and enjoyment of the property by the State, its political subdivisions, the public at large, or by entities granted the power of eminent domain, or for the removal of urban blight. The amendment would prohibit the taking of private property for transfer to a private entity for the purpose of economic development or to increase tax revenues. The amendment would also limit the legislature’s authority to grant the power of eminent domain in the future unless it is approved by a two-thirds vote of all the members elected to each house.
The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as follows: “The constitutional amendment to prohibit the taking, damaging, or destroying of private property for public use unless the action is for the ownership, use, and enjoyment of the property by the State, a political subdivision of the State, the public at large, or entities granted the power of eminent domain under law or for the elimination of urban blight on a particular parcel of property, but not for certain economic development or enhancement of tax revenue purposes, and to limit the legislature ’s authority to grant the power of eminent domain to an entity.”
I think I just had a seizure. What does any of that mean? There were 11 Propositions on the table and none of them made any sense to me. I’m glad I didn’t vote because I would have tossed and turned for a week wondering if I had voted improperly. Who would suffer because I had accidentally voted yes for a Proposition that entitled the government to place tracking devices in the new flu vaccines?
The funny part was I searched for it on Google and couldn’t really find anything about “texas election november 2009”. I found a list of the Explanatory Statements for the November 3rd, 2009 Constitutional Amendment Election on the Secretary of State’s website so I’m guessing it was just a little election, not determining if anyone would be coming into office.
I’ve been OBSESSED with the new Tegan an Sara album “Sainthood” since I got it sunday. I love this progression that they’ve made from folky indie lesborock that they were in the beginning to this fun, energetic electro-pop jive that they’ve got going on now. It really takes an amazing artist to progress with time evolve with it instead of clamping onto an era and riding it until you become retro.
Thats all I got today. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep?
Ah, the joys of being British. No written constitution = no referendums to amend it!
