What is the Christian Right beyond an outdated means of saying you’re superior without giving any real reason or motivation for that superiority? It’s a symbol. It’s a symbol of more than Christianity; in fact it has nothing to do with religion what so ever. It has to do with power and those who hold it, and it appears that power has now shifted.
Obama’s religion, no matter what it may be has been totally irrelevant to his campaign. He never played the religion card as he watched his opponents give hate speeches on shows like the 700 club and pulling little chicken shit moves like letting an ultra-conservative talk show host be their “unassociated” voice to attack Obama bellow the belt by accentuating his middle name and other acts of ignorance.
The Religious Right now as it was even before Christianity came around has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with land and goods. Now the land in question is foreign soil instead of neighboring land and the goods are now oil instead of gold and jewels. Black is definitely the new platinum. I’m surprised rappers haven’t chained up barrels of oil to wear around their necks.
So what gives fuel to the religious right? It has to be more than a book and a faith. It’s like football. It’s easier to win recognition and respect for your school by playing America’s most loved sport than soccer and the Religious Right is all about power and respect. Actually that in itself says a lot considering American Football isn’t played anywhere else in the world, in fact everywhere else soccer doesn’t even exist. I know it’s trite and over said but I still find it ridiculous that America is the only country in the world that plays Football and acts like it’s the only way it ever has or ever should be played. Religion does the same, there is no true original religion; it’s all a continuous evolution of something that existed before.
Which brings me to a thought I’ve been sitting on for a while – If Jesus were the true one and only son of god how would he appear to life on other planets? What about all the other saviors, have they all made a galactic savior tour to each planet like some divine twisted vision of RENT? Would Jesus show up as bearded man of Jewish descent to a race that doesn’t look remotely Jewishly, or even humanoid for that matter? If Jesus is the ONLY true way to Heaven and ONLY comes to Earth and ONLY comes in one form, Is all life that doesn’t originate on Earth condemned to Hell, or are cultures and societies millions of years our senior excused for their “ignorance”?
Beautiful.
Check out what Obama will do for the Arts:

We did it.
Yes we did.
Right or Left, prop 8 has shown once and for all that discrimination is alive and well. Gay America must realize that it does not have any political representation on the issue! Either side of the political spectrum, Red or Blue, they stand alone on the issue of Gay marriage. The one last remaining ‘Hope’ has has all but faded. Or maybe the gay community was foolish to hope at all as Obama made it very clear that he was against gay marriage since his God disallowed it! His God says: “don’t hate gay people, treat them well but make sure they don’t get married!” Yes, sounds ridiculous and insane in the extreme!! People who object that this issue is not at par with the civil rights quest for racial equality very conveniently forget that the dehumanization of the African American community was justified invoking the same God that is now being used to denounce the gay right to marry. God was misused then to justify racism as God is being manipulated now to justify homophobia. Shameful for this to happen within days of a historic and momentous change! This is not faith, this is dogma and the President elect seems somewhat muddled over the fine distinction. Very disappointing and heartbreaking!
I respect that this is a major blow to the religious right. I don’t think that we have received the final punch yet. And organizations – if you want to call this one – have a habit of being toughest to squash near the end.
I venture to see the Religious Right become even more right wing and intolerant before we can see a victory.
I totally agree, but haven’t you noticed the last few true hardcore supporters of the Religious Right that remain have become extremely delusional? They believe that the non-FOX news media has made up all these people that oppose them and the world exists in some strange form of 1950’s stasis where gay people are child molesters that live in vans and the only nice black people in the country are Amos and Andy. It’s like with this loss they’ve bucked up harder but I really think they’re starting to see their numbers vs. the rational world…
